1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of vehicle rental services provided by Regal Roads, a luxury car rental company operating in Taiwan. By booking a rental, signing a rental agreement, or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not proceed with a rental.

These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. References to "we," "our," or "us" refer to Regal Roads. References to "you" or "your" refer to the person entering into the rental agreement.

2. Eligibility Requirements

2.1 Age and License Requirements

All renters must be at least 21 years of age at the time of rental. Certain vehicle categories may require renters to be 25 years or older due to insurance requirements. You must possess a valid driver's license that has been held for a minimum of one year. International visitors must present both their home country driver's license and a valid International Driving Permit (IDP).

2.2 Additional Documentation

You must provide a valid passport or government-issued identification, a credit card in your name for payment and deposit purposes, and proof of local address or accommodation details in Taiwan. We reserve the right to verify all documentation before releasing a vehicle.

3. Booking and Confirmation

3.1 Reservation Process

Bookings can be made through our website contact form, by phone, or in person at our Taipei office. All reservations are subject to vehicle availability. We will provide written confirmation of your booking via email, including rental dates, vehicle type, pickup and return locations, total pricing, and included services.

3.2 Booking Modifications

Changes to confirmed bookings must be requested at least 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time. We will accommodate modification requests when possible, subject to vehicle availability. Changes may affect rental rates if the modification alters the rental period or vehicle category. Requests made within 48 hours of pickup are considered last-minute and may incur additional fees.

3.3 Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made more than 72 hours before pickup receive a full refund of any prepaid amounts. Cancellations made 48-72 hours before pickup incur a 25 percent cancellation fee. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before pickup incur a 50 percent cancellation fee. No-shows or same-day cancellations result in forfeiture of all prepaid amounts.

4. Rental Fees and Payment

4.1 Pricing Structure

Rental fees are quoted in New Taiwan Dollars (NT$) and include the vehicle rental, comprehensive insurance coverage, GPS navigation system, and 24-hour bilingual roadside assistance. Fees do not include fuel, highway tolls, parking fees, or traffic violation fines incurred during the rental period. Additional mileage beyond package allowances is charged at NT$8 per kilometer.

4.2 Security Deposit

A refundable security deposit is required at the time of vehicle pickup. Deposit amounts are NT$15,000 for sedan and crossover rentals, NT$25,000 for SUV rentals, and NT$35,000 for luxury touring vehicle rentals. Deposits are held on your credit card and released within 7-14 business days after vehicle return, pending inspection for damage and verification that no traffic violations were recorded during the rental period.

4.3 Payment Methods

We accept major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and JCB. Debit cards may be accepted with prior approval and additional documentation. Payment in full is due at the time of vehicle pickup unless alternative arrangements have been made in advance.

5. Vehicle Use and Driver Responsibilities

5.1 Authorized Drivers

Only individuals listed on the rental agreement and who meet our eligibility requirements are authorized to operate the vehicle. Allowing unauthorized persons to drive the vehicle voids insurance coverage and makes you liable for all damages and violations. Additional drivers can be added to the rental agreement at the time of pickup or during the rental period by visiting our office with proper documentation.

5.2 Permitted Use

Vehicles may be driven on paved public roads throughout Taiwan. You must comply with all Taiwan traffic laws and regulations, maintain the vehicle in good condition including regular fluid checks, park in designated areas only, and return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pickup.

5.3 Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited: operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances; using the vehicle for commercial purposes including ride-sharing or delivery services; allowing the vehicle to be driven by unauthorized persons; taking the vehicle outside of Taiwan without written permission; participating in racing, rallying, or any competitive driving events; towing or pushing other vehicles; transporting hazardous materials or illegal substances; smoking inside the vehicle; and transporting more passengers than the vehicle's designated capacity.

6. Insurance Coverage

6.1 Included Coverage

All rentals include comprehensive insurance covering vehicle damage from accidents, collision with other vehicles or objects, theft of the vehicle, and third-party liability as required by Taiwan law. Coverage is provided through licensed insurance companies operating in Taiwan.

6.2 Deductibles and Limitations

Standard deductible amounts apply: NT$20,000 for sedans and crossovers, NT$30,000 for SUVs, and NT$45,000 for luxury touring vehicles. Deductibles are waived for incidents where you are not at fault and a police report has been filed. Insurance coverage is void if the vehicle is used for prohibited activities or driven by unauthorized persons.

6.3 Exclusions

Insurance does not cover personal belongings left in the vehicle, damage caused by intentional misconduct or gross negligence, mechanical failures resulting from improper vehicle operation, tire damage not resulting from a collision, or interior damage including stains, burns, or odors requiring professional cleaning.

7. Vehicle Condition and Maintenance

7.1 Pre-Rental Inspection

At pickup, you will participate in a thorough vehicle inspection with our staff. Any existing damage, scratches, or wear will be documented with photographs and noted on the rental agreement. You are responsible for verifying this documentation is complete before accepting the vehicle. Please report any concerns during this inspection process.

7.2 During Rental Period

You are responsible for monitoring fluid levels including engine oil and coolant, maintaining proper tire pressure, keeping the vehicle clean and in good condition, and immediately reporting any mechanical issues, warning lights, or unusual sounds to our support team.

7.3 Mechanical Issues

If mechanical problems occur during your rental, contact our 24-hour support line immediately. Do not attempt repairs yourself. We will arrange appropriate assistance, which may include on-site repair, vehicle replacement, or towing services. You will not be charged for mechanical failures that result from normal vehicle operation.

8. Accidents and Damage

8.1 Immediate Actions Required

In the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle, you must ensure safety of all persons involved; contact emergency services if there are injuries; contact Taiwan police to file an official report (required for all accidents); notify our support team within two hours of the incident; obtain contact and insurance information from other parties involved; document the scene with photographs if safe to do so; and do not admit fault or make agreements with other parties before consulting with us.

8.2 Damage Assessment

Upon return, we will inspect the vehicle for any new damage. You will be shown any damage discovered and provided with photographic documentation. Repair costs will be estimated using standard Taiwan automotive repair rates. You are responsible for deductible amounts as specified in the insurance section or full repair costs if insurance coverage is void.

9. Return Procedures

9.1 Standard Return

Vehicles must be returned to the agreed location at or before the scheduled return time. Late returns without prior authorization incur hourly fees. After-hours returns can be arranged in advance with specific instructions provided. The vehicle should be returned clean; excessive dirt or requiring professional cleaning will result in cleaning fees ranging from NT$1,500 to NT$5,000 depending on severity.

9.2 Fuel Requirements

The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at pickup. If returned with less fuel, you will be charged for the difference at NT$45 per liter plus a NT$500 refueling service fee. We recommend refueling at stations near the return location and keeping receipts for your records.

10. Limitation of Liability

Regal Roads' total liability to you for any claims arising from the rental agreement shall not exceed the total amount paid for the rental. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages including lost profits, business interruption, or travel delays. We do not guarantee specific vehicle models; equivalent vehicles may be substituted. We are not responsible for personal property left in vehicles or damage to such property during the rental.

This limitation does not affect your statutory rights under Taiwan consumer protection laws or our obligations under mandatory insurance coverage.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Regal Roads harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the vehicle, violations of these Terms, traffic violations or parking fines incurred during your rental, damage to third-party property, injury to third parties caused by your operation of the vehicle, or your violation of any Taiwan laws or regulations.

12. Termination of Rental

We reserve the right to terminate your rental and repossess the vehicle without refund if you violate these Terms, provide false information on your rental application, allow unauthorized persons to drive the vehicle, use the vehicle for prohibited purposes, fail to pay rental fees or additional charges, or if we reasonably believe the vehicle is at risk of damage or misuse.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan, Republic of China. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your rental will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Taipei, Taiwan. Before pursuing legal action, we encourage you to contact us to resolve disputes informally through our customer service team.

14. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms periodically to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or business practices. Updated Terms will be posted on our website with a new "Last Updated" date. If you have an active rental when Terms are updated, the version in effect at the time of your booking continues to apply to that rental. For future rentals, the current version of Terms applies.
